We

Dear family, friends, acquaintances and relations,

Practically every year we travel through the south of Africa during our winter months. This way we avoid the coldest months in the Netherlands and broaden our horizons.

In 2019 we visited the far northwest of Namibia for the first time and met the Himba there, one of the most original tribes in the world.

It was heartbreaking to see how there was very little food to survive due to the drought. Because there had been no rain for years, there was hardly any agriculture and the emaciated cattle practically no longer yielded any meat.

This year it is even worse and Northern Namibia in particular is experiencing the worst drought ever measured. We feel compelled to help this Himba population in their poor existence. We have substantially increased our travel budget so that at the end of this year we can buy, transport and distribute food and other basic necessities in remote villages for a month. In short, we will ensure that as many Himba as possible get through this difficult time.

And now you

You too can help. It’s very simple. Do your shopping and Help a Himba. Below you will find a link to the store. Check what should be in the shopping cart. We will ensure that your shopping is delivered to a family in need.
How can I be sure that the money is well spent?

We buy the groceries directly from the supplier and hire the transport ourselves. We pay directly for the services provided to minimize the risk of corruption.

Where do the groceries come from?
Since there are hardly any shops in the areas where the need is greatest, most groceries come from the towns of Kamanjab and Opuwo. There are both supermarkets and wholesalers here.
How do the groceries get to their destination?
With local trucks and pick-ups, the groceries are brought to a central location from where we deliver them ourselves.
Aren’t we giving anything to other residents in this area?
Since there are also some other people living in this region who could use something extra, we will not skip them. However, the focus is on the Himba.
Are there any reasons why you would not want to participate in this initiative?
Yes, there are 1000 reasons you can think of as an excuse, but there is only one reason why you have to participate: The Himba really need it now. More than ever!
