SOUP KITCHEN

As promised, we return to the Soup Kitchen project. Gerrit and Jana Schoeman (Owners of the Spar in Opuwo) provide a daily soup meal to about thirty malnourished children, who often can no longer tolerate solid food. The soup is made from leftover fresh produce and unsellable items, for example the packaging is damaged.

Every day, under the watchful eye of a social worker, these children gather under a tree. The soup is served in containers brought by the children themselves. These are cut-off PET bottles and dirty bowls and buckets.

In itself a wonderful initiative that still needs some improvement and we are going to help with that!

There is a serious need for permanent shelter with better hygienic conditions, running water and clean tableware.

Unfortunately, there are many more children in the Opuwo region who need immediate (additional) food.

We are currently looking for a suitable location that meets the above requirements. That is not easy in this poor area. A suitable solution is that we build a housing ourselves with the necessary facilities.

The donations that are still coming in will be spent on this. However, this will not be sufficient.

Back in the Netherlands we will look for sponsors for the project ‘Soup Kitchen Opuwo’. Help and advice are of course welcome.
